#010: IWD, FineTuning and the in betweens.

You know I’m back, like I never left :-), this is the beginning of a song I very much like and I have very much forgotten. First, it’s 2026, is it too late to say, Happy New Year? Second, I am changing the newsletter a bit. Third, this was the March Edition, and it’s been nagging me ever since I wrote it. So let’s get it!
Fine Tuning
When customizing Generative AI model, you first try with prompt/context engineering, where you give your model a meta prompt that serves as instructions to how the model should be. In the sense of tone, behaviour and security practices. This will work in giving the model focus, but you might need your model to have a bit more knowledge and information, so you introduce RAG, Retrieval Augumented Generation, where you ground your data to your model. In this case the model refers to your data as it replies to the prompt.
But this might not be good enough. 🥁🥁🥁 Fine Tuning is now when the customization is on the model itself, customized to a specific domain or use case. For this you need a strong use case, and reason for the customization. I have a couple of videos that can show you how to get started with FT in Microsoft Foundry and how you can deploy your model.
International Women’s Day
Every year, we celebrate this day, mark it as a celebration to all women who came before and who will be coming after us. This year’s theme was Give to Gain. In my own words, when we need help we gain and in times of priviledge we give. I love teaching, so this year, I moderated a panel, answered AI/ML Q&A questions in Chuka University and went to AIC Kajiado Girls to teach digital literacy, more of asking questions and brainstorming answers together. A moment I learnt a lot more than I thought I could. However, my challenge was a question that was asked but still lingers, in the next year, during IWD, what do you want to have achieved? I was, and still am looking for the best response for it.
AI can…
This is a new section I just added because I wanted to share tools I use and how I use AI. Today I spotlight, curriculum creation. There’s a buzz around learning and building a personal curriculum. So I did myself a one good one and created a sketch-noting curriculum with AI. It needs to be fleshed out, but it gives me a curriculum to get drawing daily and improve my storytelling skills.

In-betweens
Right now I am working on Building and Execution. I want to experiment more and see my progress as I go. On of the things I am building is an AI end-to-end course. Breaks down terminologies, and has a different topic with examples and implementation use cases. Today, and several days ago, I have built the chasis. So from next week, we get into building mode. Every month for the newsletter, I will share progress and what you can do with the platform.

what i am reading: 1984 by George Orwell, such an intersting book, that is also a lot! It’s always hard when fiction is so close to reality
what i am listening to: what now by Trevoah Noah, every episode so far has been my best this year.
what i am watching: Abbott Elementary. Every wednesday, something to look forward to!
